Propane Explosion at CT business- The Register Citizen News - Northwest Connecticut's Daily Newspaper

NEW MILFORD, Conn. (AP) — A dispatcher says firefighters believe a propane leak sparked a reported explosion at a New Milford business that injured one person.
The dispatcher says it appears the victim pushed a button to open a garage door Thursday morning, and that action ignited propane that had leaked from a tank of a forklift parked inside.
The person suffered burns and was taken to Danbury Hospital. The victim's name and medical condition weren't released. The building off Route 7 caught fire, and firefighters are trying to put it out. The name of the business hasn't been released. Authorities say reports of an explosion were called in shortly before 8 a.m. Thursday.

RAYMOND NAMED INDEPENDENT DISTRIBUTOR OF PLUG POWER’S GENDRIVE™ HYDROGEN FUEL CELLS

GREENE, N.Y. — The Raymond Corporation is now an independent distributor for the sale, rental and lease of Plug Power (NASDAQ: PLUG) GenDrive™ fuel cell units in North America. As an Authorized Service Provider, Raymond also will provide warranty and maintenance service on GenDrive products through its North American Sales and Service Center network. In addition, Raymond is a GenDrive Authorized Distributor of service parts.
“Plug Power is a fuel cell market leader, and this partnership enables Raymond to offer cutting-edge lift truck power solutions to the material handling industry,” says Chuck Pascarelli, executive vice president of sales and marketing for The Raymond Corporation. “Through this agreement, Raymond and its Sales and Service Center network can aid companies in the deployment of fuel cell-powered lift trucks and provide ongoing service and support throughout the life of the trucks.”
“Raymond’s leading AC technology, coupled with Plug Power’s proven GenDrive solutions will bring superior power and performance to the electric lift truck market,” says Andy Marsh, CEO of Plug Power. “By investigating and commercializing new technologies to power its durable, reliable lift trucks, Raymond is helping to offer companies a seamless solution for installing fuel cell-powered lift trucks.”
GenDrive fuel cell power units have been tested and approved for use in Raymond® Model 8400 pallet trucks, Model 4100 and 4200 stand-up counterbalanced trucks, and various Model 7400 Reach-Fork® trucks. Raymond is evaluating additional Raymond lift truck models to assess their compatibility with hydrogen fuel cells.
Based on recent demonstrations by lift truck and fuel cell manufacturers, there appears to be significant potential to improve warehouse productivity when fuel cells are used to power lift trucks in high-throughput warehouse applications. Hydrogen fuel cells can offer higher productivity in electric lift trucks because they can be rapidly refueled by operators, eliminating the need to change, store and maintain batteries. Plus, fuel cells produce constant voltage, which means there is no battery drop toward the end of a shift, and the vehicle experiences no performance degradation.

Raymond PowerSteer Option

Raymond Corp. offers a new PowerSteer option on its 8000 series rider pallet trucks to reduce the effort required to maneuver the truck and increase operator comfort.

The PowerSteer feature is available on the model 8400 end rider, model 8500 center rider and model 8600 tugger trucks. The PowerSteer option provides consistent, responsive steering and automatically decreases power-steering assistance levels as the speed of the pallet truck increases. The ACR system reduces maintenance, delivers more run time per battery charge and provides enhanced response to operator commands, according to Raymond.
Raymond’s center rider and tugger trucks with the PowerSteer option also feature adjustable-height handles to accommodate a range of operator heights and preferred operating positions. Center rider and tugger trucks with the PowerSteer option automatically slow down when the truck turns around corners.

Modern Material Handling Article: Raymond L.I.F.T. Program

The Raymond Corporation recently announced they are helping companies to upgrade their existing lift truck fleets by offering cash incentives to purchase new, more efficient equipment. Through the Raymond L.I.F.T. (Lift truck Incentive For Trade) program, warehouses and distribution centers will receive cash incentives for upgrading their existing Raymond and non-Raymond lift trucks that are 12 years old or older. Cash incentives vary depending on the make and model of the lift truck being traded.

“New lift trucks can enable companies to improve productivity and energy efficiency for reduced total cost of ownership,” said Joe Ginnetti, vice president of sales for The Raymond Corporation. “For example, a regenerative lowering feature, found on new Raymond 9000 Series Swing-Reach lift trucks, recharges the lift truck battery when the forks are lowered to increase battery life.”

Another important component of the L.I.F.T. program is recycling. Due to the high recyclability of the iron and steel from which lift trucks are constructed, up to 97% of each Raymond truck is recyclable. Trucks traded in through the Raymond L.I.F.T. program will be recycled.

Raymond and non-Raymond trucks can be traded in until March 31, 2010.

Forklift Training:

Operators of powered industrial forklifts are required to be fully trained and employer certified-per OSHA regulations. As part of the regulation, "the employer shall ensure that each powered industrial truck operator is competent to operate a powered industrial truck safely, as demonstrated by the successful completion of the training and evaluation".

Employers like yourself need an effective and comprehensive training program to meet this OSHA regulation.

Raymond Handling Solutions, Inc. helps you meet and exceed OSHA standard 1910.178 by offering specialized and comprehensive training material and programs. Not only do we offer Forklift Training and Training the Trainer Programs, we also offer free CAL/OSHA compliance and defense services in California: Safety Documentation, Safety Inspections, Safety Training, and Safety Consultation.

Lift Truck Training Program From Raymond Educates Pedestrians On Safety

The Raymond Corp. introduces an educational program — "Steps To Safety: Pedestrian Safety in a Material Handling Environment" — that assists an employer in teaching pedestrians how to act responsibly in environments where lift trucks are operated.

The training program, which includes a DVD, presentation materials with an end-of-program review, and a participant handout, can be facilitated by a local Raymond sales and service center representative or by a trainer within a company.

Raymond’s Steps To Safety program is uniquely designed to target the pedestrian, rather than the lift truck operator. This information assists the pedestrian in making the right decisions when working in material handling environments.

Pedestrians will gain environmental awareness and visual communication skills through segments ranging from “Being a Defensive Pedestrian” to “Thinking on Your Feet.” The program also facilitates discussion among participants about site-specific pedestrian requirements and concerns.

“In a warehouse environment, safety is everybody’s responsibility. Just as operators have to be trained on how to operate a lift truck in a warehouse, pedestrians need to know how to navigate in a warehouse where lift trucks are being used,” says Mike Angelini, manager of dealer and customer education for The Raymond Corp.

“Raymond created this new training resource after listening to our customers who were asking for help in developing employer-based pedestrian training programs.”

New 3-Wheel Sit Down Forklift

RAYMOND has introduced a new sit down counterbalanced electric forklift. The new Raymond Model 4450 forklift is a three-wheel, sit-down counterbalanced lift truck and engineered for productivity, energy efficiency and enhanced performance in a variety of materials handling applications.

With lift capacities up to 4,000 lbs, the Model 4450 features a short head length that reduces turn radius, also making it ideal for tight spaces, such as those found in manufacturing, warehousing and on loading docks.
