Racking & Permit Requirements in Southern California

Is your organization considering a move to a new facility or obtaining city & fire permits for existing racking? Raymond Handling Solutions designs, installs and permits racking & integrated systems throughout North America.

Here is a list of information required to obtain these permits, let us know if we could be a resource for you.

A. Building, Site and Product Information

1. Legal description (lot number, block, tract, address).
2. Owners or customers name, address including zip and telephone number.
3. A letter on the client's letterhead describing the commodity classification and the product to be stored.
4. Permit number and date of original building.
5. Type of building, floor and roof (i.e. concrete tilt-up walls, concrete slab floor, wood and composition roof) as well as building classification (i.e. B-2, S-1 etc.).
6. Sprinkler height, permit number and date.
7. Sprinkler head temperature, density and square feet.
8. Fire hose racks, smoke vents, and draft curtains.
9. Copy of site plan showing lot size, adjacent streets, size of building, users relative location and handicapped parking etc.
10. Building elevation drawing or sketch reflecting sprinkler, trusses, roof beams or purlin heights.

B. Building and Rack Information to Calculate Seismic and Material Specifications.

1. Floor plan with rack layout including all entries and exits in the surrounding walls plus relative location in the plot plan.
2. Load class, size, maximum weight, average weight and fill of product to be stored.
3. Bay size, elevations and number of storage levels supported by the racks. Specify if bottom load is to be on the floor. Specify if any level of storage is two or more loads high.
4. Thickness, strength (PSI) and reinforcing of concrete slab. Specify if floor is other than a concrete slab on a soil grade (i.e. second floor, wood, freezer slab on insulation).
5. Bearing strength (PSF) and type of soil under slab. If an engineered fill, specify soils engineer, report number and date.
6. Specify what building department has jurisdiction over job site area and if available, building code they follow. If no code is specified, the rack system will be designed to meet or exceed California Building Code, 2008 Edition.
